Unfortunately, for students, exam time is here, and it is time for heads down and bums up. And incredibly, I find that in my procrastination, I suddenly have 100 new compositions I want to write, but I need to keep focussed on the work at hand... So, turning my back to my year 7 teachers who warned me not to study with music on, here's my top 7 albums to pop on while I'm studying.
1. Kings of Leon - 'Only By The Night'
An absolute classic rock album that I believe was excessively overshadowed by its two singles 'Use Somebody' and 'Sex on Fire'. A perfect album to smash through some revision.
2. Jon Hopkins - 'Insides'
Such a gorgeous mix of electronic music and ambient vibes, Jon Hopkins has been a mastermind producer behind some fantastic hits without ever taking the spotlight. 'Insides' is perfect for intense study, with its stress relieving powers.
3. James Vincent McMorrow - 'We Move'
For those who are more pop inclined, James Vincent McMorrow's 2016 album 'We Move' is soothing for the mind. Get through hours of study with this on loop without ever getting frustrated that you're attempting to learn a full year of content in a week!
4. Christophe Beck - 'Soundtrack of Tower Heist'
5. Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest - 'Sylva'
For my more regular readers, you know how much I love Snarky Puppy. But when it comes time to really knuckle down and work, Snarky Puppy's collaboration with Metropole Orkest 'Sylva' is a faultless blend of jazz, pop and orchestral genres. Perfect for playing quietly as you read over your notes!
6. Hozier - 'Hozier'
Considering I don't usually like listening to pop music as I study, Hozier's distinctive chill style is soothing, and I love listening to his self-titled album to wind up my studies.
7. Beats & Pieces Big Band - 'All In'
For those who need some funky horn lines and driving drums to bring home the bacon, I'd suggest you check out 'All In' by Beats & Pieces Big Band. Plenty of uplifting numbers, as well as 'Fairytale' to sooth you out of your studies!
Do you agree with all those selections? Maybe you have a couple of albums of your own that you love to study! I'd love to hear from you, so comment below or on my Facebook page!
Good luck with exams and I will be back on the other side!
