It is my great pleasure to announce 'SIEGE' has been set by the NSW Music Advisory Board as the Open A Grade Brass Band Test Piece for the 2023 Australian National Band Championships (plus 'Freefall' for the Junior Euphonium title!). It will be a great honour to hear the most exceptional Australian brass bands performing this work to its full potential in their quest for the first Australian National title in four years.

Western Brass and Footscray Yarraville City Band are pleased to formally announce the appointment of Jared McCunnie to the position of Musical Director for Western Brass.
Jared has multiple strings to his bow as a composer, conductor and performer and we will be really excited to see the direction in which he takes the band. It is great to see someone with such enthusiasm, drive and knowledge take the helm at Western Brass, and we look forward to a long and fruitful association with Jared.
2019 was a huge year for my music, including 9 world premieres, my first ever set major work at a National contest ('Vengeance' as the Open D Grade Brass Band Test Piece at the Australian National Band Championships), plus numerous international performances, particularly of my arrangement of 'The First Noel'. So rather than you sift through the last 12 months, I have compiled, in no particular order, my favourite recorded performances and premieres from 2019.
Hi everyone! Gee, it has been a little while since I posted here (I have been fairly busy with my composing and studies)! 2018 has been a huge year, with my exchange to Salford University, plus my big year of performances back home in Melbourne. Below you can find my top 10 favourite performances of my music from 2018.
I am excited about everything lined up in 2019! The Australian National Championships at Easter will be a big weekend, with 'Vengeance' being my first set test work at a National Contest. Keep your eyes peeled for more of my works throughout the weekend too! I'm also excited about a number of other works coming through the pipeline set for premieres in 2019! No clues just yet, but follow me on Facebook for updates as they arise! Earlier this month, I returned home to Melbourne from my 5 month exchange from Manchester, and what a whirlwind 5 months it has been for me musically and overall! It will be difficult to summarise the last couple of months in a single post, but read below to find out what I experienced and what new music I've written!
Another year has come and gone. I must thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support over the last 12 months and beyond. In 2017, I wrote more music than I have ever before, I had plenty of premieres and new projects come through, and that wouldn't be without your encouragement.
2017 has catapulted me into an incredibly exciting 2018! I am going on exchange to University of Salford, near Manchester, from late January to June, where I will be able to study composition under some of the best brass band composers in the business. I'll also be heading to a number of exciting events while I am there, including the European Brass Band Championships, the UK Regionals and the RNCM Brass Band Festival. The trip certainly isn't cheap, but I'm sure I'll be enjoying every penny's worth with fantastic experiences that Australians can only dream of. But before we truly get into 2018, I thought I'd reflect on my top 10 Compositional and Musical Highlights of 2017 below.
12 months ago, I launched this website, and officially began my career as a freelance musician. What an incredible 12 months it has been, and I can only be thankful to all my supporters for encouraging me to get to where I have come, and hopefully where I will go!
What an incredible weekend we have just had! The Australian National Band Championships were incredible on so many levels, but it also saw the world premiere of my first major work for brass band “Buckley”! You might have seen a bit of social media promotion for this in the last couple of days! Well, I thought it was best to properly explain everything behind Buckley in one big write up!
I am back for 2017! 2016 sure was an incredible year, where I not only began my compositional studies at Monash, but I launched this website and saw my music take off. Make sure to check out my Wrap Up for 2016 for all the details.
Hello to you all! The new year is just around the corner and that means 2016 is coming to a close! Thank you to you all for your ongoing support of my music, especially this year! Without people like you, I would not have launched my website this year, and my musical journeys would not be as wide spread or exciting as they are now!
