Western Brass and Footscray Yarraville City Band are pleased to formally announce the appointment of Jared McCunnie to the position of Musical Director for Western Brass. Jared has multiple strings to his bow as a composer, conductor and performer and we will be really excited to see the direction in which he takes the band. It is great to see someone with such enthusiasm, drive and knowledge take the helm at Western Brass, and we look forward to a long and fruitful association with Jared. Jared made the following statement regarding his appointment: 'I would like to recognise the incredible work of Western's outgoing Musical Director Erin Ellenburg. Erin has grown Western into not only one of the most joyful brass bands in Victoria, but also a formidable contest competitor. I wish Erin the very best of luck with her future musical endeavours. I am looking forward to working closely with Western Brass from April, and paving its next musical chapter. In 2020, our focus will be on performing evocative and engaging concert programmes, but a contest appearance is also not off the cards! The door to Western Brass will always be open on a Tuesday night. Whether you have been playing in brass bands for 50+ years, or want to try it for the first time, Western will gladly welcome you into the band room, whether it be for a one night visit or for a lifetime! Taking up the MD position with Western Brass has, however, resulted in my resignation from Northern Brass' bass section due to rehearsal clashes. I have had a wonderful five years playing with the band, which included victories at the 2015 Australian National Championships in the C Grade, and both the 2017 and 2018 Latrobe Valley Eisteddfods in the B Grade. My last engagement with Northern will be at the Australian National Band Championships in April this year. The band's preparations are coming along nicely and will make for a fitting conclusion to my time with the band.' You might also like...
