The title says it all. I've reflected on the music of this year, and compiled my favourite live or studio recorded performances from 2016 into one list. There's something for everyone in here! 1) Mcrobin - Shallow DiverFantastic singer-songwriter McRobin from Melbourne is an incredible upcoming musician, with a brilliant modern folk sound. Check out his live version of Shallow Diver above! 2) Jacob Collier & Metropole Orkest - Human NatureAfter listening to the Quincy Jones Prom from this year, attending the BBC Proms was instantly added to my musical bucketlist. This performance of an MJ hit is performed by the brilliant Jacob Collier and Metropole Orkest, and the arrangement is absolutely stunning! 3) Cory Band - Triumph of TimeArguably the finest brass band performance of the year, Cory couldn't lose. Apart from some funky tuning in the back row cornets for a single note, faultless performance and shows what a brass band is truly capable of. A must watch! 4) Matt Corby - Empires AttractionWith his debut album finally released, Matt Corby was kicking goals all year. Even with some raw flute playing, Corby's live performance is mesmerising and passionate. Looking forward to some new music soon! 5) A.B. Original, Paul Kelly & Dan Sultan - Dumb ThingsMaking for Like a Version gold, Kelly brought out his own hit, alongside A.B. Original and Dan Sultan, and it sure made a ripper. Clearly demonstrating he's still got all his musical mastery, this performance was a beauty from 2016. 6) Snarky Puppy & Chris Turner - Liquid LoveIt's funky, it's got plenty of spice, and everyone in that room is loving it. I loved Snarky Puppy's first Family Dinner, and I loved the sequel released this year. Plenty of great tracks, but Liquid Love really gets me grooving. 7) Jacob Collier - HajangaYes, I realise Jacob Collier already features on this list, but he has had an incredible year and really skyrocketed as a phenomenal mulitinstrumentalist. Hajanga is a fantastic composition and showcases everything this young musician has. So there we have my top 7 performances from 2017. Looking forward to a fantastic year of music in 2017! Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! You might also like...
