'Bella Ciao', translating to Goodbye Beautiful, is an Italian folk song, famously utilised as a protest song by partisans opposing nazism and fascism during the Second World War. It is now symbolic of resistance and freedom from oppression.
This setting for brass band by Australian composer and arranger Jared McCunnie juxtaposes the melancholic mournful anthem against a celebratory dance of succesful resistance. Brace yourself for surprises along the way! This arrangement was premiered by Melburnian band Western Brass under the baton of the arranger himself as part of their set at the 2022 Grampians Brass Festival. Difficulty - 4th Section+ (D Grade+) Duration - circa. 4.5 minutes |
