'Elegy' is the final section of Jared McCunnie's 'SIEGE', a major work written in response to the Sydney Siege of 15th and 16th December 2014. A sole perpetrator held 18 victims hostage in the Lindt Chocolate Cafe in Martin Place as part of a 16- hour siege. Jared's composition is an emotional response to the tension, unease and hurt caused by the event.
The composer dedicates 'Elegy' to the lives of hostages Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson, who were tragically killed during the Sydney Siege on 15th and 16th December 2014. Solemn and reflective, 'Elegy' captures Australia's heartfelt response to the victims of the attack. 'Elegy' was awarded the Robyn Young Award at the 2019 South Brisbane Federal Brass Band Composition Competition. Type of Work - Reflective/Concert Item Difficulty - 1st Section (A/B Grade) |
