'Exordium' - Tenor Horn Solo
Commissioned by Andrew Boyle
Details'Exordium' is the first of a series of tenor horn solos composed by Melburnian composer Jared McCunnie commissioned by Andrew Boyle. Each are of increasing technical difficulty to follow Andrew's personal learning and development on the tenor horn.
Exordium is a formal word used to describe the opening of a discourse or composition, just as this solo does for the series that follow. The solo's declamatory three note motif of A-D-E is drawn from the commissioner's first name "AnDrEw". With bold use of open harmonies, parallel tonalities and charismatic articulation, 'Exordium' for tenor horn allows intermediate players to highlight the beauty of the instrument in a contemporary and evocative way.
