This hymn arrangement was commissioned by Parramatta City Brass in 2021. 'Nearer, My God, to Thee' was composed by Lowell Mason to the text of Sarah F Adams in 1856. This Christian hymn tells the story of Jacob's Ladder from the Book of Genesis. The hymn is well-renowned, particularly as it was allegedly the final song played by the band upon the Titanic as the ship sank.
This arrangement by Jared McCunnie aims to capture one's wishes to be nearer to God. The arrangement evokes an increasing nearness to God through growing textures and evolving key changes.
