'Never Celt Better' is an Irish-inspired concert item for brass band and percussion. The work draws inspiration from the folk-melody foundation, soloist-led spontaneity and embracing joyfulness of an Irish session, and is guaranteed to leave an audience tapping its toes and longing for one final chorus.
Jared was born in Melbourne, Australia but partly comes from a line of Irish ancestry: it is quite the hike to the Emerald Isle! The main melodic material for 'Never Celt Better' came to the composer as he flew home in 2018 from a semester exchange in Manchester, England, where his studies included an ethnomusicological analysis of Irish Sessions and the concept of 'play'. The melody sat in the composer's digital scrapbook for a handful of years, but has been developed into 'Never Celt Better' as a celebratory concert item. Audiences can expect superb soloistic performing, with contributions big and small right across the band. Keep your ears peeled for moments of both melancholic reflection and unyielding jubilation! 'Never Celt Better' was a finalist at the 2022 River City Brass Composers Competition. Duration: 6 minutes Difficulty: A/B Grade (2nd Section+) |
