DetailsThis setting of Irish Folk Song 'Slane' was commissioned by Wodonga Brass in memory of Life Member and much-loved trombonist Jim Costelloe. Jim was a longstanding member of the Victorian banding movement, with 75 years of membership to the Victorian Bands League. Wodonga Brass commissioned 'Slane' as a musical tribute to Jim's contribution to Wodonga Brass.
'Slane' is a well known Irish folk tune, most commonly paired with popular Christian hymn 'Be Thou My Vision'. Slane is named after a hill in County Meath, Ireland, where St Patrick's lighting of an Easter fire (an act of defiance against the pagan king Loegaire) led to his freedom to breach the gospel. As a nod to Jim's lasting legacy in Australian banding, this setting by Jared McCunnie features a number of sections in the band, including Jim's own instrument of trombone. Suitable for 4th Section (D Grade) and above. |
