“I was immediately impressed by Jared’s intensity of thought and passion for music. I was so impressed with all he had to say that, on parting, I said that if he ever had the opportunity to write a piece for brass band and was interested in a commission, to contact me. After some discussion and agreement with Jeff Steele and the Geelong West Brass Band – for whom I wanted to commission a piece as a gift – Jared was off the starting blocks.
Within a few weeks, he had amazing samples for the band to try. He listened carefully to Jeff and crafted parts for individual players, wrote to the strengths of the band, and most importantly found an amazing story, intimately connected to the band to create the theme for the piece.
